Potted plant with tree design in warm light, creating a calm and grounded therapy setting

FAQ

Getting Started

Do I need to know exactly what I want to work on before reaching out?

No. Most people come in with a general sense that something isn’t working, even if they can’t name it yet. That’s a fine place to start. Part of the work is figuring it out together.

What happens in the free consultation?

It’s a 15-minute conversation without paperwork or pressure. We’ll talk about your reasons for considering therapy. I’ll answer any questions you may have about how I work. Afterwards, you can decide whether I feel like the right fit for you. There’s no obligation to continue.

What happens after the consultation?

If you decide to move forward, we’ll schedule an intake session. This is a 50- to 55-minute appointment focusing on your history and current concerns. That will help us zero in on the approaches that make the most sense for you.

Fit & Approach

How do I know if this is a good fit?

This approach tends to resonate with people who are self-aware but still feel stuck. You may have tried therapy before and found it helpful, but not enough to create lasting change. If that sounds like you, a consultation is the easiest way to find out if this is a good fit.

What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?

That’s a common experience. You may have gained insight in past therapy without seeing meaningful change. This work focuses more directly on how patterns are held in the body and nervous system, Change isn’t something you can think your way into, it’s something you begin to experience.

Is this just “talk therapy”?

No. We’ll talk about your past and present experiences. But I also integrate EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), which go beyond insight alone. That’s often what makes the difference when talking hasn’t been enough.

Neurodivergence

Do I need a formal diagnosis to work with you?

No. Some clients come in with one. Others are unsure whether autism or ADHD fits their experience. Both are strong starting points.

Can you help me figure out if I might be autistic or have ADHD?

While I don’t provide formal diagnostic evaluations for autism or ADHD, we can explore whether your experiences align and how they show up in your life. If you’d like a formal diagnosis, I can help you find the right assessment providers.

Will therapy try to change how my brain works?

No. The goal isn’t to make you function like someone who is neurotypical. It’s to understand how your mind works and stop forcing it to work against itself.

Trauma & EMDR

What is EMDR and how does it work?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based approach that helps the brain process experiences that feel stuck. Rather than focusing primarily on analyzing what happened, it works to reduce the emotional charge of memories and shift patterns at their source. It’s one of the most well-researched treatments for trauma and PTSD.

What if I’m not sure whether what I experienced counts as trauma?

If something is still affecting how you feel, react, or relate to others, it’s worth looking at. The threshold isn’t severity. It’s impact.
